north of Western Kiribati. Meanwhile, an easterly wind flow prevails
over the group.

Western Kiribati: Cloudy periods with some showers over Butaritari
and Tarawa. Elsewhere, Fine apart from brief showers.

Rough seas, seas becoming moderate to rough from tomorrow night.

Occasional rain, heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms over the
southern parts.

A COASTAL INUNDATION WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR SOUTHERN COOK
ISLANDS.

A DAMAGING HEAVY SWELL WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR OPEN WATERS OF
SOUTHERN COOKS.


Situation:
Tropical Cyclone Pita [996hpa] was located near 19.8S and 167.9W or
about 860km west of Rarotonga at 0900UTC today. TC Pita moving east
southeast at about 40km/hrs and expected to gradually weaken as it
moves near the group. Associated clouds and rain expected to affect
Southern Cooks untill later tomorrow. 

A northerly wind flow prevails over Northern Cooks. 

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Southern Cooks:
Over land areas and waters: Northerly winds 20 to 30, gusting up to
35 knots. 
Rough to very rough seas.
For open waters: Damaging heavy swells up to 4.0m.

Expect sea flooding of low lying coastal areas especially during high
tides.

Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms, becoming
frequent from tonight.


Further outlook:    Strong winds over land and waters expected to
ease. Moderate to heavy swells up to 4.0m. Expect sea flooding of low
